ASHLAND, Wis. – Northland College hosted rival Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) opponent St. Scholastica on Friday evening at the Bay Area Civic Center. The game resulted in a 4-4 tie after an exciting overtime earned the LumberJacks a point in conference play.

The Jacks fed energy into the arena when Darius Cole (Aurora, CO (Williston State College-NJCAA)) opened up scoring play at 1:02 into the game, the assist coming from Michael Berens (Lakeville, MN (Williston State College-NJCAA)). The two have combined for more goals this season, Cole netting his 9th and 10th goals on the season and Berens showing his ability to create opportunities with his 7th and 8th assists on the season.

The Saints answered back a little over halfway into the period with a goal by Dylan Nowakowski. Assists for the tying goal came from Luke Simpson and Steven Phee.

In the 17th minute of the first period, Timothy Perks (Oxford, MI (Blind River Beavers-NOJHL)) was able to counter the Saints goal, assisted by Colby Spoonemore (Billings, MT (Williston State College-NJCAA)) and Matt Lennon (Reedsburg, WI (Madison Capitals-AAA)). The Jacks closed out the first period and went into the locker room up 2-1.

The Jacks and Saints would then compete in the second period to combine for four goals in a back and forth battle. The Saints pulled ahead of the LumberJacks with two back-to-back goals by Derek Hills until Cole recorded his second goal of the game and sparked the Jacks game plan back into action. Just 27 seconds after the tying reaction Berens then followed up on Cole's goal giving the Jacks the 4-3 lead. Berens was assisted by Ben Owen (Allen, TX (Lone Star Brahmas-NAHL)) and Anthony Stempin (Livonia, MI (New Jersey Jr. Titans-EHL)).

The LumberJacks held onto their lead for most of the third period but in exciting fashion the Saints had an answer with a goal by Michael Spring at 13:13. The two teams headed into overtime and provided the Civic Center with much entertainment, resulting in the 4-4 tie.

Jesse DiLillo (Fresno, CA (New Jersey Renegades-MetJHL)) had 40 saves on the game, remaining strong in net for the Jacks in this season's campaign.

The Jacks return to NCHA competition on the road to take on the Saints at Mars Lakeview Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m.
