ASHLAND, Wis. – Northland College's student-athletes finished the spring semester with a combined 3.25 grade point average (GPA), out of the 193 athletes, 99 had a 3.5 or better.
Even through the difficult last two months, the student-athletes continued to persevere in games and in the classroom resulting in a cumulative 3.25 GPA. 35 students (18 percent) finished the spring semester with a perfect 4.0 while 99 (51 percent) had a 3.5 or better.
"Our coaches are very pleased with how the student-athletes handled their class work with all the uncertainty that was thrown at them this semester," said Hope Neargarder the Senior Women's Administrator and Head Volleyball Coach. "Our student-athletes showed a lot of resiliency and hard work and we could not be prouder. Shout out to our seniors who will be graduating in a few weeks- congrats and good luck!"
The Volleyball team led the way in academics culminating in a 3.71 GPA. The women's soccer and women's hockey teams rounded out the top three highest team GPAs at 3.60 and 3.54 respectively. On the men's side, men's basketball posted a 3.41 GPA.
"This is why I do what I do: to see my student-athletes reach their goals and put in work to get there," Neargarder said about the volleyball team. "Reaching our team GPA goal back-to-back semesters shows all the hard work, dedication, and effort these ladies have shown not just for volleyball but in the classroom as well."
Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Midwest Lacrosse Conference, and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
