ASHLAND, WISC.- The Northland College women had a strong showing on Senior Day, defeating Northwestern 2-0. Senior
Cassandra Brown (Baraga, Mich.) started the game of well, possessing the ball up top for the Jills. Seniors
Natalie Absil (Grays Lake, Ill.) and
Mikayla Jaeckel (Fort Atkinson, Wisc.) held strong for the team. Jaeckel man-marked one of Northwestern's biggest threats, and limited her touches on the ball. Absil made streaking runs down the field, shredding Northwestern's defense, and getting crosses into the box.
It was sophomore
Madeleine Wieland (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) who came through again for the LumberJills. In the 37th minute, Wieland ran straight past the Northwestern defense, and netted the first goal of the match. In the second half, Wieland went tearing down the field again, this time in a tag-team effort with
Heather Jensen (Anoka, Minn.). Jensen nutmegged the opposing keeper, and Wieland finished the job. The Jills look to continue their winning streak next weekend on the road against Martin Luther. Kickoff is at 3:15 p.m.
