ASHLAND, Wis. - Northland College (15-13, 8-7 UMAC) finished off their regular season on senior day with a 10-0 victory in eight innings over Finlandia University on Tuesday afternoon.
The Jacks were able to send off five seniors on a high note in their last game at LumberJack field with a decisive 10-0 victory in eight innings. The Jacks got on the board in the bottom of the opening frame to take a quick 2-0 lead.
Peter Aerts started the game off with a walk, and
Nathan Brown followed that up with a single.
Travis Hendrickson then drove in the first run the very next at bat, and
Colin Moberly brought in the second, both with singles. The third inning saw the Jacks tack on a run with a
Mitchell Howard single.
A five run inning in the fourth helped break open the game, and give Northland the 8-0 lead.
Shane Buckley started the inning off with a single, which was followed with singles by Aerts and Brown. Hendrickson then had a fielder's choice single to bring in Buckley, and
Matt Lennon helped clear the bases with a double. Moberly would walk, and Howard then cleared the bases with his own two RBI double.
The Jacks would send the fans home happy by putting up a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Ryan Johnson would single to begin the inning in his first game back after an injury to his hand earlier in the season. Hendrickson then had another solid hit with a double, and Moberly was able to bring the runners home with a single.
Kyle Strom (3-2) had an excellent game on the mound going 5.0 innings and only allowing three hits in the victory.
A.J. Verhage was able to record his first save of his career throwing the final 3.0 innings.
The five seniors playing their last regular season game at Northland include
Ryan Johnson,
Shane Buckley,
Cody Leland,
Travis Hendrickson, and
Dan Romano. All five seniors have had pivotal roles in the Jacks season this year, and their hard work and dedication to the LumberJack program have been extremely appreciated.
