ROSEVILLE, Minn. - Northland College (14-13, 8-7 UMAC) finished thier six game weekend with a split of Northwestern with a victory of 10-5, before falling 14-4 in seven innings.
The Jacks would start out game one fast, gaining the lead in the second inning, and never looking back. Northland managed to push across four runs in that second inning, which started with a Mitch Howard double down the right field line.
Jacob Hodgdon was hit by a pitch with one out, and
Jacob Mogged was walked to load the bases.
Peter Aerts then came up and hit a single into left field to score two runs. Mogged would score in the next at bat thru two wild pitches, and Aerts scored off of a
Nathan Brown single.
Northwestern scored two runs in the bottom of the third, but the Jacks had an answer in the top of the fourth. Hodgdon started the inning with a single, and would advance off a Mogged sacrifice bunt. Hodgdon again was advanced to third, and scored on a passed ball with two outs.
Northwestern found a way to tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth, but once again Northland found an answer and put up three runs in the next half frame. Aerts was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and Brown drew a walk.
Travis Hendrickson kept up his hot hitting with a single to drive in a run. With an aggressive lead at first, Hendrickson was able to draw an errant throw which helped bring in Brown and advanced himself.
Matt Lennon reached base from an error, and
Colin Moberly hit into a fielder's choice. A double steal would put Lennon and Moberly on second and third with only one out. With Howard up, a perfectly executed suicide squeeze brought home Lennon, and gave Northland the 8-5 lead.
The Eagles tried to put something together in the eighth inning, but
Colin Moberly came up clutch on the mound. With Northland clinging to an 8-5 lead, the Eagles were able to load the bases with nobody out and the heart of their order up. Moberly struck out the first batter, which was followed by an easy fly out to second base, and Moberly would get out of the inning with one last strikeout to hold Northwestern scoreless.
Riding the momentum from the defensive stand, the Jacks added some insurance thru a Moberly two run home run in the ninth, and Northland was able to come away with the 10-5 victory.
Colin Moberly (2-0) was excellent on the bump getting the complete game victory, with eight strikeouts.
Peter Aerts went 1x4 with two runs, and two runs batted in, and
Nathan Brown was 1x1 with a run scored, a run batted in, and three walks.

Northland got off to a quick start for game two jumping out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning.
Matt Lennon and
Colin Moberly each got on base thru walks, and Mitch Howard moved them over with a sacrifice bunt. Dan Kollauf then hit a fielder's choice to bring in the first run, and
Jacob Hodgdon ripped a single up the middle to score the other run.
Northwestern was able to take the lead in the fourth, but the stingy Northland bats brought an answer to tie the game up in the fifth.
Peter Aerts managed to rip a ball in the gap and brought in Hodgdon. The Jacks kept it rolling in the next inning to retake the lead at 4-3. Lennon was hit by a pitch then stole second base in the next at bat. Howard was then able to bring him in with a single into left field.
The Eagles jumped on the bats the next two innings, however, and were able to score 11 runs in the next two innings to end the game early at 14-4 in seven.
Travis Hendrickson (1-2) was good on the bump going a strong 5.2 innings for Northland, but the bullpen wouldn't have the same luck against the Northwestern bats. Mitch Howard was 2x2 with a run batted in, and
Matt Lennon scored two runs to lead the Jacks.
