DULUTH, Minn. - Northland College (15-14, 8-7 UMAC) lost in the opening round of the UMAC tournament to Martin Luther College by the final score of 5-2. Despite the heart-breaking loss, the LumberJacks completed their first winning season since 2006.
Northland College couldn't find any rhythm offensively, and Martin Luther was able to take advantage of four errors. The Jacks were able to get on the board first in the second inning and take a 1-0 lead.
Matt Lennon started the inning with a walk and stole second. Lennon then was able to advance to third on a deep fly ball from
Colin Moberly, and was driven in the next at bat with a screamer up the middle by
Mitchell Howard.
The Knights then were able to score three runs in the next two innings before Northland had an answer to cut the deficit to 3-2. Hendrickson got the inning going with a one-out single, and would advance to second and third thru wild pitches in the next at bat. Lennon then brought him in with a sacrifice fly to left field.
Northland wouldn't be able to get anything else going offensively and a pair of runs in the ninth for Martin Luther solidified the 5-2 loss.
Dan Romano (2-4) had a great bounce back start for the Jacks going 7.1 innings and only allowing one earned run.
Matt Lennon went 1x2 with a run scored and a run batted in.
