COON RAPIDS, Minn. - Northland College (10-9, 4-3 UMAC) got dominating pitching performances as they swept their UMAC double header against North Central University by scores of 6-0 and 15-2 on Saturday afternoon.
The Jacks started out fast and didn't look back on their way to sweeping North Central. The Jacks started out game one with a
Peter Aerts double, which followed with
Nathan Brown being hit by a pitch.
Travis Hendrickson then kept up his streaky hitting with a single to score Aerts. The Jacks wouldn't be done as
Matt Lennon would later hit a sacrifice fly to score Brown and give the Jacks the 2-0 advantage.
The Jacks bats were silenced but only for a couple of innings. The Jacks would manage to bring a consistent offense to the plate as they would score single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. An insurance run was added in the eighth inning, and the final score would read 6-0.
Kyle Strom (1-2) was stellar on the mound for Northland getting the complete game shutout only allowing six hits, and striking out eight, while not walking any batters.
Travis Hendrickson went 2x3 with three runs batted in for the Jacks, while
Matt Lennon would go 2x2 with a run batted in.
Game 1 Box
The Jacks started the second game in similar fashion, and the offense would be stellar. Northland would bang out 17 hits in the eight inning, mercy ruled, 14-2 victory.
Travis Hendrickson once again led the offense getting the Jacks started with a two-run home run in the first inning. The third inning saw Northland take advantage of two Ram errors to put up a three run inning, and gave the LumberJacks 5-0 lead. The offense wouldn't be done as they would put up another three run inning in the fifth, where they would bang out five hits and take advantage of a North Central error. Northland would have another big inning in the eighth where they would put up four runs via five hits, helping to ensure the ten run mercy rule would end the game.
Travis Hendrickson (1-1) would pick up the win for the Jacks going 5.0 innings and only allowing two hits. The bullpen would get some quality innings as
Shane Ellias,
Brandon Jahnke, and
Daniel Kollauf would all throw 1.0 inning each.
Jacob Mogged had a good game at the plate going 3x5 with a run batted in and two runs scored, while
Daniel Kollauf wasn't far behind going 3x4 scoring two runs and hitting in a run as well.
