Seamus Gregory

Seamus Gregory was hired as the Head Coach of LumberJack Hockey in July of 2014, he is the fourth Head Coach of the program and holds the most wins in the 23 years of Jacks Hockey competing at the NCAA level.

2022-23 will mark his 9th season at the helm in Ashland. Since Gregory and his staff’s hire they have completely revamped Jacks Hockey. Through their strong recruiting they have clinched three playoff berths in the past six seasons. Over this time men’s hockey has transitioned from the NCHA (Northern Collegiate Hockey Association) to the powerhouse WIAC (Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). In five seasons in the NCHA, Men’s Hockey had many accolades with players achieving all-conference, all-freshmen, and all-academic status. Gregory was also named the NCHA Coach of the Year for the 2016-17 season. In the Jacks first season in the WIAC they also had a recipient on the first team all WIAC and two honorable mentions. Since the addition of Gregory’s staff on Ellis Avenue they have also moved on numerous student athletes to professional hockey in North America and Europe.

Prior to Northland, Gregory spent three seasons (2011-2014) at Williston State College in northwest North Dakota, where he was the architect of Teton Hockey. Gregory was the first ever coach in Williston State Hockey history. In a short three years at Williston State, Gregory led the program to a three Region XIII titles, twelve All-Americans, three NJCAA Frozen Fours and two National Championships (2013, 2014). The two titles are the first and only National Championships in any sport in school history.

Gregory is no stranger to Midwest Division III Hockey; his collegiate coaching career began in 2008 at Lake Forest College where he spent 3 seasons. (2008-2010) as the first assistant/recruiting coordinator under 32 year mid-west Division III Hockey Coach Tony Fritz. Gregory also spent one year as the interim Head Coach (2010-2011).

Before joining the college hockey, Gregory spent 5 years (2003-2008) at St. Mary’s Catholic Prep School in Lynn, Massachusetts where he taught United States History and coached hockey and tennis.

Aside from his passion for collegiate hockey, Gregory has also taken a vested interest in growing and promoting the game at the youth level. NC Hockey has become a staple in the City of Ashland and Ashland Youth Hockey under Gregory. He is also actively involved with USA Hockey and in his spare time works hockey camps and clinics throughout the United States with national hockey governing body. 

Gregory also serves as the Interim Athletic Director at Northland and lives with his family in greater Ashland.
