ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Basketball team dropped its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference opener 37-83 to Crown College Wednesday night in Ashland, Wis.

Hannah Peel earned a trip to the free-throw line and made both attempts to start the game. Crown quickly responded on its next possession. Northland was held scoreless for the next few minutes, allowing the Polars to go on a 14-point run. Peel finally put the LumberJills back on the board with another free throw. After the first 10 minutes, Northland trailed 20-3.

After a slow first quarter Northland would have its best quarter in the second.
Britta Josephson scored her first bucket with another free throw for NC. Peel would score the first points on the floor for the LumberJills with a layup after a steal. On the next three trips, the Jills came back with points from Josephson and Peel finding success in the paint. Peel had a 10-points quarter with Josephson adding six. To end the scoring for NC Â in the half,
Leah Allan in her first game, made a layup with
Hanna Hoskin assisting on the basket. The half ended with Crown hitting a half-court buzzer-beater, which summed up the first half for the Polars.

Crown started the second half with six straight points. Peel found Josephson who made a two-point jumper to end the scoring run for CC. After a steal by
Kodie Rempp, Josephson scored again, contributing to a four-point rally for the Jills. Rempp added a free throw soon after. With under four minutes left in the third quarter, the Jills put together another four-point run with Allan and Josephson scoring.

The final quarter was a low-scoring affair with the teams combining for 17 points. Josephson scored after securing a steal, marking the first points of the fourth quarter. Hoskin followed with Northland's first three-pointer of the game, and Peel added a layup to close the scoring for the Jills.

Peel led the scoring for Northland with 15 points her fourth game in double figures. Josephson would finish one behind with 14, her third game scoring that amount. Allan totaled four points off the bench and Hoskin and Rempp added three and one respectively. Although she didn't score heavily, Rempp paced both teams with a game-high nine rebounds. Josephson grabbed seven rebounds, second on the team. Rempp also recorded the only block for the Jills.

Northland continues UMAC play as they host the University of Minnesota Morris at 2:45 p.m., on Saturday.
