ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Basketball team fell 79-41 to North Central University in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play Wednesday night in Ashland, Wis. Sophomore
Britta Josephson scored a career-high 15 points in the losing effort.
Â
Josephson scored the team's only points in the opening quarter with a layup in the paint. North Central's Kaitlyn VanderPloeg proved to be a challenge for the Jills, securing 10 rebounds in the first 10 minutes, including four offensive boards.
Â
Northland began to find its rhythm offensively and defensively in the second quarter. Josephson knocked down a pair of free throws for the team's first points of the quarter. Soon after,
Hannah Peel went 1-of-2 at the free-throw line.
Hanna Hoskin landed on the scorer's sheet with a layup under five minutes remaining. A minute later, Hoskin started a nine-point rally with Northland's first three-pointer, followed by a layup and free throw from Josephson, then capped off with another triple from Hoskin.
Â
Hoskin grabbed an offensive rebound and fed Josephson to start the scoring in the second half.
Leah Allan scored her first point of the game at the line, but the Northland offense went quiet for most of the third quarter. As the shot clock was expiring,
Madie Linka fired a deep two-pointer for her second made basket of the year.
Â
The fourth quarter was the LumberJills' second-best of the season. A driving layup from Peel kicked off the scoring. With under four minutes to play,
Kodie Rempp drove hard to the basket to finally get a shot to fall after some unlucky breaks. On the next possession, Peel stole a pass and found Allan in transition, where she scored two points. Peel then went to the line, making the first and missing the second, but Josephson grabbed the rebound and scored. In the final minute, Hoskin found
Lily Zapp wide open, and Zapp scored her first collegiate points. Hoskin ended the game with her third three-pointer.
Â
Josephson led the game in scoring with a career-high 15 points. Hoskin matched her best performance at Northland, scoring 13 points. Peel added four points, and Allan contributed three. Rempp, Linka, and Zapp each scored two points. Peel recorded a game-high five assists. Defensively, Josephson and
Saleen Thepmontry led the team with five rebounds, with four of Thepmontry's rebounds coming on the offensive glass.

Northland returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Martin Luther College for a 2:45 p.m. game.
