Northland drops non-conference game at Gustavus Adolphus

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Northland College Men's Hockey team fell in non-conference action to Gustavus Adolphus College 5-0 Saturday night in St. Peter, Minn.
 
Less than two minutes into the game, the LumberJacks were on the power play. Northland took advantage of the man advantage, putting three shots on net from Brock Hart, Hunter Nelson, and Zach Hutchinson. The Jacks continued to pressure the Gusties' goaltender but were unable to score. At 7:36, GAC took the lead. At the end of the first period, Northland led in shots 8-7.
 
In the second period, Northland was penalized four times, and GAC capitalized on the opportunities, extending their lead to 4-0. Hutchinson had the only shot for NC in the middle frame.
 
The Jacks spent another five minutes in the penalty box to close out the game, and Gustavus Adolphus added its fifth goal on the power play. Northland's offense was quiet in the third period, registering just two shots on goal from Mac Reed and Hart.
 
Four LumberJacks totaled a team-high two shots: Reed, Hart, Hutchinson, and Ben Stewart. In the faceoff circle, Northland and GAC were even at 26-26, with Hutchinson contributing with 10 faceoff wins. Andrew Yocum made 30 saves in net.
 
The Jacks return to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday when they host the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 7 p.m.
