Jacks start the second week of UMAC action on the road

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Basketball team hits the road for the first time in 2025 as they travel to the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. game. On Saturday, the LumberJacks head to Bethany Lutheran College for a 1 p.m. tipoff.

The Jacks began Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play last week when they hosted Crown College and the University of Minnesota Morris. Northland went back and forth with Crown in the first half, trailing by only two points. However, the Polars had a dominant second half to seal the win. Ari Pierson and Damian Cejka led the scoring for the Jacks with 12 points each. Pierson led NC against the Cougars as well, scoring 17 points.
 
Senior Jahlani Thornton leads the LumberJacks with 123 points, averaging 9.5 points per game. Cejka and Pierson both surpassed 100 points last week, with 107 and 103, respectively. Pierson also has a team-leading 25 assists. On the defensive side, Thornton leads the way with 92 rebounds, ranking second in the UMAC. Stephen Kesti has 14 blocks, which ranks him sixth in the conference.
 
The Yellowjackets come into the game with a 5-8 record and are 2-0 in the UMAC after defeating North Central University 89-89 and Bethany Lutheran College 84-80 last week. UW-Superior is averaging 69.0 points per game, with their leading scorer, J'Vaun Walker, contributing 16.2 points per game. Reid Johnson and Joey Barker are also averaging over 10 points per game, with 13.7 and 11.5, respectively. Defensively, Barker leads the team with 70 rebounds.
 
After winning the UMAC Championship last season, the Vikings have had a slow start, with a 3-10 overall record and 0-2 in conference play. Last week, Bethany Lutheran lost 82-91 to the University of Northwestern and 80-84 to UW-Superior. The Vikings are leading the UMAC in scoring, averaging 81.6 points per game, but they also give up the second-most points in the conference at 90.2. Senior Drew Sagedahl is second in the conference, averaging 20.1 points per game. Three other Vikings average more than 10 points per game.
