Men’s Basketball enters the final week of the 2024-25 season

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Basketball team will play its final games of the 2024-25 season this weekend. They will start on the road at the University of Northwestern on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., followed by a home contest against Martin Luther College on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Jahlani Thornton, Damian Cejka, and Donovan Washington all reached double figures in the game against the University of Wisconsin-Superior, but the Jacks were unable to come away with the win. Thornton recorded his third double-double of the season in the loss. In the following game at Crown College, Thornton again led the team in points, with Stephen Kesti matching him with 10.
 
Thornton leads the Jacks in points with 233, averaging 10.1 per game, and in rebounds with 167. This season, Thornton ranks fifth in rebounds in a season at Northland. Cejka and Ari Pierson follow him in points with 204 and 162, respectively. Kesti and Washington round out the top five with 112 points each. Kesti has also made his mark in the Northland record book, ranking fifth in blocks for a season with 24 and fourth in his career with 43.
 
The Eagles have an overall record of 12-11 and are fifth in the UMAC with a 7-5 record. Last week, UNW split its games, falling to Bethany Lutheran College 83-90, and then defeating North Central University 92-87. Northwestern is averaging 80.3 points per game, while their opponents score 78.2. Junior Japheth Nyamari leads the Eagles in scoring with 419 points, averaging 19.0 points per game, ranking third in the conference. Sophomore Soren Anderson ranks first in the UMAC with 194 rebounds, averaging 8.4 per game.
 
Martin Luther is 7-16 overall and has a 2-10 record in the UMAC. The Knights are on a four-game losing streak, having nearly fallen to Crown 76-78 and to the University of Minnesota Morris 85-86 last week. MLC is averaging 77.1 points per game, with its leading scorer, Adam Loberger, accounting for 20.7 points per game. Benjamin Pearson leads the team in rebounds with 173.
