The Saints come back and defeat the Jacks in Monday game

Northland drops nonconference game on the road

DULUTH, Minn. – The Northland College Baseball team was defeated in eight innings 16-6 by the College of St. Scholastica Monday evening in non-conference action in Duluth, Minn.
 
Tyler Murphy started the game with a lead-off single followed by a stolen base to get himself into scoring position. Zach Ross scored Murphy on a single to left field to give the Jacks an early lead. The Saint responded in the bottom half to level the game.
 
Ethan Boyce in the second inning got all of his outs via strikeout, only facing four batters in the inning. Northland did some damage in the third. It started with a single from Caden Willis followed by him stealing second. An error scored Willis as Murphy reached safely for the second time this game. A single from Matt Simpson brought in a run with a single through the left side. Anthony Boyle ended the scoring with a bases-clearing three RBI double to put Northland up 6-1. Boyce followed it up with a one-two-three inning.
 
The Saint got a run back from a sac fly by stranded two in the fourth inning. CSS cut the lead to one in the following inning. Trying to spark the offense Andy Linder started the sixth inning with a single in his first at-bat of the game. He would steal second base but ended the inning there.
 
St. Scholastica continued to build off its momentum and took the lead after a five-run sixth inning. As Northland could not score a run the Saint continued to, winning 16-6.
 
The Jacks recorded 10 hits in the loss with Peyton Solber, Ross, and Linder all pacing the team with two. Linder entered the game in the fifth inning and went 2-for-2 at the plate. Boyle had Northland's so extra-base hit with a double. Murphy, Linder, and Willis all stole as base.
 
Boyce started on the mound and went 4.1 innings with four strikeouts and five earned runs. Thomas Szymanski made his collegiate debut in the eighth inning.
 
The Jacks return to Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play tomorrow (Tuesday) as they take on the University of Wisconsin-Superior for the final game of the three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m., at LumberJack Field in Ashland, Wis.
