MAUSTON, Wis. – In the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference opener, the Northland College Baseball team fell 12-2 and 11-0 to the University of Wisconsin-Superior Thursday afternoon in Mauston, Wis.
Anthony Boyle made the start on the mound for the LumberJacks and pitched three scoreless innings and only gave up one hit.
Tyler Murphy had the first hit of the game with a single to left field but finished the inning on the bag. In the following inning, Northland loaded the base from single
Nolan Hemmesch,
Peyton Solberg, and
Caden Willis, but could not score them.
The Yellowjackets put up five runs in the fourth inning and never looked back finishing the game with 12 runs. In the fifth, the Jacks started to chip away at the deficit. After two quick outs, the Jacks recorded two singles to get men on base. Hemmesch had the first extra-base hit and RBI with a one-run double. An error by UWS scored NC's second run but the scoring stopped there for the Jacks.
Northland recorded 10 hits in the contest and left 10 men on base. Hemmesch led the team with three hits from two doubles and a single. Murphy and Willis also had a multiple-hit game with a pair of singles. Solberg drew the only walk for the Jacks.
In his start, Boyle went for three innings and struck out one batter.
Vinny Troccoli entered in the fourth inning and gave up five earned runs in the loss while striking out one batter.
The Yellowjackets started fast with four runs in the first inning. The Jacks' bats were held quiet with only three hits and were unable to push one across the plate. UWS piled on the runs and won 11-0.

Ethan Boyce started on the mound for game two. After a rough first inning, he slowed the scoring allowing two more runs in four innings. In the five innings pitched, he struck out one batter and only walked one.
Kazdion Mount pitched the seventh inning for NC and got out of it only seeing four batters.
The Jacks step away from UMAC play as they travel to River Falls, Wis., for a doubleheader with Augsburg University.
