LumberJacks fall short in comeback against Rockford

Northland goes 0-2 on the day

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Northland College Baseball team could not complete the comeback against Rockford University falling 6-7, and earlier in the day was defeated 3-14 by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
 
Against the Rangers, the Jacks trailed 5-0 early. Northland put together some offense in the third starting with Kazdion Mount taking a free pass after getting hit by a pitch. Parker Williams singled to put two on. A balk and passed ball push Mount home for NC's first run. The next inning Andy Linder scored Zach Ross with a single up the middle to cut the lead to three.
 
The Ranger put up four in the fourth to take a comfortable lead for the remainder of the game. Entering the final inning the Jacks trailed 14-2. Hunter Wicklund scored Vinny Troccoli for the final run of the game.
 
In the first game of the day, Northland tallied five hits coming from, Ross, Linder, Williams, Peyton Solberg, and Jay Harris. Ross had his second extra-base hit on the season with a double in the fourth inning.
 
Ethan Boyce made the start on the mound with pitched three innings in the loss. Claudio Aguilar pitched the final two innings and got the team's only strikeouts with two. Noah Gerritson earned the win after five and two-thirds innings pitched with 11 strikeouts and one earned run.
 
The Regents took an early lead in the first scoring on a double steal and a sac fly. The LumberJacks loaded the bases in the third inning with three straight walks. A hit batter and another walk tied the game for Northland before they recorded its first out. Ridge Guyette gave Northland the lead with a two-run double.
 
Rockford tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run home run. In the seventh inning, RU expanded its lead to 7-4. The Jacks were down to their final out as they started to chip away at the lead. Wicklund loaded the bases with a single with only one out. Matt Simpson walked to score a run. A sac fly from Ross cut the lead to one. Northland could not score the tying run and fell 7-6.
 
Guyette had two hits in game two with a double and a single. Guyette and Ross both had two RBIs in the loss. Simpson drew three walks and scored one run to lead Northland.
 
Dezmon LeTexier made the start and pitched three innings with one strikeout and four earned runs. Matthew Traeger entered in the fourth inning and gave up three earned runs in the loss. Alex Easton earned the win after going 6.1 innings and gave up two earned runs.
 
The Jacks start Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play next week when they host the University of Wisconsin-Superior for three games start on Friday.
