KENOSHA, Wis. – The Northland College Baseball team drops both games in the doubleheader to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside 1-3 and 1-7 Friday afternoon in Kenosha, Wis.
Game one was a pitching duel between
Andrew Birko and Carter Storti. The first run of the game came in the second inning after a Ranger home run from Owen Brock. The LumberJacks responded in the following inning.
Dezmon LeTexier started the inning with a leadoff double, followed by a bunt single from
Hunter Wicklund to put runners on the corners.
Tyler Murphy hit a sac fly to tie the game.
After two scoreless innings, the Ranger retook the lead after putting up two in the sixth. In the final inning, Northland went down one-two-three to end the game 3-1 for UW-Parkside.
Wicklund led the team with two of the five hits. LeTexier had the team's sole extra-base hit and
Matt Simpson and
Kazdion Mount both had singles.
Ridge Guyette drew the team's only walk in the game.
Birko pitched five innings in the loss and now has a record of 1-2. In those innings, he struck out four batters, did not give up a walk, and suffered three earned runs. Ryan Klukas earned the win in his relief appearance pitching two innings.
The Jacks struck first in game two with Guyette singling to score Wicklund in the first inning. The lead did not last long with UWP scoring two in the bottom half of the inning. Northland's offense would stop there as the Ranger would score five more to win 7-1.
Northland had three hits in game two coming from Wicklund, Murphy, and Guyette. Wicklund reached base three times in the contest and stole three bases.
Vinny Troccoli started on the mound for NC and he pitched a career-high four innings. He had two strikeouts, walked two batters, and gave up five earned runs. Maguire Delagrave earned the win with only giving up one earned run.
The Jacks continue play in Kenosha with a pair of games tomorrow (Saturday). They start the day with the Rangers at 11 a.m., then play Rockford University at 2 p.m.
