ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team fell in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play 4-0 to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Friday night in Ashland, Wis.
Before the game 10 seniors were honored for all their hard work on the ice for the last four years with the team.
The Blugolds took the lead nine minutes into the first period and before the first horn were up 3-0. The LumberJills tallied seven shots in the first 20 minutes but were unable to land on the board. Again, near the nine-minute mark, UWEC found the back of the net increasing its lead to 4-0. Northland had nine shots on target but were held out of the net. In the final period, the Jills had three more cracks at goal but Alexa Backmann kept her clean sheet in the 4-0 victory.
The LumberJills recorded 19 shots in the contest with freshman
Audrey Ellerington leading the team with four. Hannan Baumann and
Kyleigh Moffatt were behind here with three. In the circle,
Elle Black had a team-high seven faceoff wins.
In net, senior
Corrin Hanson made 39 saves, increasing her season total to 348 through nine games. Hanson ended the game with a save percentage of 90.6 percent. The defense continued to pace the conference in block shots this team totaling 17.
Jamie Steinmetz stopped four shots and
Daphne Gray blocked three.
The Jills end their series the Blugolds tomorrow (Saturday) with a 2 p.m., puck drop.
