UW-Eau Claire completes series sweep over Northland

Jills fall 7-1 in final home game

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team in its final home game of the season fell 7-1 to No. 6 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon in Ashland, Wis.
 
The Jills and Blugolds battled to a scoreless first period. Freshman goaltender Karlee Lehner kept the LumberJills in it making 15 saves in the first 20 minutes. Northland recorded three shots in the opening period coming from Audrey Ellerington, Taylor Richmond, and Kate Holtz.
 
The second period started the same as the first but on the first powerplay of the period the Blugolds broke the ice going up 1-0. They added a second 19 seconds later and before the period ended UWEC was up 5-0.
 
Elle Black had Northland's sole goal of the game with Kyleigh Moffatt assisting on it. The Blugolds ended the game with two more goals to win 7-1.
 
Four student-athletes led the team in shots; Ellerington, Richmond, Holtz, and Kiera Richards all tallying two. Northland had 14 shots in the contest with nine coming in the final period. Black and Moffatt both recorded a point from a goal and an assist respectively.
 
Lehner made her 14th start in net and totaled 49 saves. Holtz and Jamie Steinmetz paced the team with three blocks.
 
The Jills wrap up the regular season with a two-game road series with the University of Wisconsin-Superior starting with a 7 p.m., puck drop on Friday.
