SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team fell in the penultimate game of the season 3-0 to the University of Wisconsin-Superior in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Friday night in Superior, Wis.
The Jills and Yellowjackets skated to a scoreless first period with UWS having a slight edge in shots at 15-to-9. For Northland,
Audrey Ellerington paced the team with three shots in the period.
The second period looked like it was going to end the same as the first but in the final minute, the Yellowjackets broke the deadlock with a goal from Emma Booth. Northland had 11 shots in the second period but could not beat the goaltender.
UW-Superior started the final period with a quick powerplay goal to double its lead 34 seconds in. The Yellowjackets added a third eight minutes later to win the game 3-0.
Northland tallied 32 shots in the contest, its second-most this season but were unable to find the back of the net. Three LumberJills led the team in shots with four, Ellerington,
Kate Holtz, and
Lauren Klein. Behind the trio were
Maddy Bloedel,
Yvonne Durfee, and
Joey Schemenauer all with three.
Corrin Hanson started in the net for NC and recorded 36 saves. The Jills had 17 blocks with
Daphne Gray recording a game-high three.
The Jills end the regular season tomorrow (Saturday) with a 2 p.m., game against UW-Superior.
