Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Jacks late surge not enough against the Polars

ST. BONIFACIUS, MINN. – The Northland College Men's Basketball team went on a late run but it was not enough falling 83-70 to Crown College in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play Friday night in St. Bonifacius, Minn.

Jordan Brennan on the first shot of the game started the scoring and gave the Jacks an early lead. The Polars responded by making their first six shots and on their first missed got the offensive rebound and put it up and scored, to go up 17-7. Northland tried to keep pace but Crown continued to pull away and went up 40-24 at half after shooting 57.14 percent from the field.

Starting the second half the Jacks matched the pace of the Polars but would not cut down the lead. Crown pulled to its biggest lead with 3:28 remaining. Drew Lindberg made a layup that sparked an 11-point run. Lindberg had five points, Jaden Jone had four and Langston Flowers chipped in two. It was a little too late with the lead now at 12 points but less than two minutes remained. In the final few possessions, the teams traded points with the Polars winning 83-70.

A majority of the scoring was done by the starter who combined for 62 of the team's 70 points. It wasn't until Ben Smith made his free throws with four minutes remaining in the game a bench player scored. Flowers scored a season-high 20 points to lead the Jacks with Brennan behind him at 15. Jahlani Thornton rounded out the top three scorers with 13.

Northland recorded 25 rebounds in the loss with Flowers and Brennan pacing the team with six. The Jacks had six offensive rebounds coming from Flowers and Thornton with two and Smith and Tyler Tuura with one.
