MORRIS, MINN. – The Northland College Men's Basketball team was defeated 82-56 by the University of Minnesota, Morris in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action Saturday evening in Morris, Minn.
Just like the game before
Jordan Brennan scored the first points of the game, this time with a pair of made free throws. The Jacks' first five points came from the charity stripe with
Langston Flowers converting on both and
Jahlani Thornton knocking down one. Northland was stuck with five points as UMM pulled to a 10-point lead.
Blake Richard scored the first basket from the floor to start to chip away at the lead. Most of the work was done at the free throw line with NC scoring 13 of the 19 points there and Richard and
Damian Cejka were the only ones to score from the floor.
In the second half, NC matched the pace of UMM but the 25-point hole from the first half was too much to overcome. Close to 29 minutes of play
Jaden Jones made the first three-pointer for the Jacks. Jones had a big second half scoring 14 points. In the end, Northland fell 82-56 to the Cougars.
The Jacks finished one below their season-high with 25 made free throws, the season-high came against the Cougars earlier this season. Jones came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 14 points, all in the second half. Behind him was Thornton with eight points, six coming from the free throw line.
Drew Lindberg rounded out the top three with seven points.
Northland snagged 38 rebounds, two fewer than Minnesota Morris. Brennan had a game-high eight rebounds.
Stephen Kesti was behind him with four. Brennan also had three steals to pace the team. The Jacks had four blocks all coming from a different student-athlete: Thornton, Kesti, Jones, and
Tyler Tuura.
The Jacks end their season next week with two road games. Northland starts the weekend with a 7:15 tipoff against Bethany Lutheran College on Friday.
