STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team held with the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series finale but came up just short 2-1 in Stevens Point, Wis., Saturday afternoon.
The majority of the first period was controlled by the Pointers tallying 15 shots to Northland's eight. Senior
Corrin Hanson kept the Jills in the game saving 14 shots. UWSP took the lead at 16:27, but it did not last long with senior
Maddy Bloedel finding the back of the net 15 seconds later getting the assist from
Taylor Richmond.
The Pointers started the second period fast reclaiming the lead with a third-minute goal. Hanson made 17 more saves in the rest of the period to keep the deficit at one. The LumberJills' offense was humming with a game-high 13 shots in the middle period but was unable to sneak one past the goaltender.
Jamie Steinmetz, Richmond, Hannan Baumann, and
Joey Schemenauer led the Jills with two shots in the period.
Hanson had another big period, this time stopping the Pointers the whole period with 10 saves. Northland struggled to get shots in the final period only tallying two.
Elle Black and
Kate Holtz gave NC a chance to level but Anne Beck kept them out to win 2-1.
Black and Steinmetz recorded a team-high four shots in the loss. Holtz was behind the pair with three shots on target. In the circle, Baumann and Black led the team with 10 and nine faceoff wins respectively.
In the net, Hanson had 42 saves for a save percentage of 95.5 percent. The LumberJills blocked 15 shots with Richmond stopping three shots.
The LumberJills return to the Bay Area Civic Center for their final home game of the regular season as they host No. 7 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for a two-game series starting on Friday.
