STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team was defeated 4-1 by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in its first road Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game of 2024, Friday night in Stevens Point, Wis. Sophomore
Kyleigh Moffatt scored Northland's sole goal to avoid the shutout.
The LumberJills had the first three shots of the game, with
Kiley Sims recording two and
Kennedy Gruhlke having the other. Near the nine-minute mark, the Pointers found the back of the net and doubled their lead 40 seconds later to go up 2-0. UWSP had the first power play of the game and took advantage of the extra skater scoring its third goal of the period.
In the second period, the Pointers added their final goal of the game coming from Courtney Leising. The Jills totaled six shots in the second period with
Taylor Richmond leading the team with two.
Northland had its best offensive period in the third recording nine shots. A minute and 10 seconds in, Moffatt landed the Jills on the board with her fourth goal of the season,
Lauren Klein assisted on the goal.
The LumberJills had 23 shots in the game with three student-athletes tallying three shots: Richmond, Sims, and Moffatt. Moffat tallied a shot in each of the periods. In the circle, Northland won 42-of-61 faceoffs.
Hannah Baumann had 14 faceoff wins.
Freshman
Karlee Lehner started in net and made 36 saves. Freshman
Daphne Gray led the team with five block shots and Northland had 14 in the game.
The LumberJills and Pointers end their series tomorrow with a 2 p.m., puck drop.
