Chavez makes 17 saves in final game of the season

Northland drops last game of the 2024 campaign

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Northland College Men's Soccer team was defeated in its final game of the 2024 season 6-0 by the University of Northwestern in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play Saturday evening in St. Paul, Minn. Rodrigo Chavez made 17 saves in his last game as a freshman with the LumberJacks.

The first half was a defensive bout. The LumberJacks held a strong defense and did not allow many shots. On one of the three shots on target in the first, the Rams found the back of the net for the lead. That was the sole goal in the opening 45 minutes.

The Eagles scored in the 13th minute of the game and didn't stop there. Before the half was up UNW was up 4-0 and Northland had not recorded a shot. In the second half, the Jacks tallied four shots but now found the frame. The Eagles picked up where they left off in the first and added two more goals to win 6-0.

All of Northland's shots came from different student-athletes; Frank Mozqueda, Chris Gomez, Julien Ruoppolo, and Deshaun Williams. In net, Chavez made 17 saves to end the season with 192 across the 17 games.

Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Midwest Lacrosse Conference, and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
