Northland falls at St. Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Northland College Men's Basketball team was defeated 93-43 at St. Cloud State University Saturday afternoon in St. Cloud, Minn.
 
The Division II school SCSU jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first 13 points of the game. Ari Pierson made the first basket for the LumberJacks from a three-pointer with Jahlani Thornton assisting him. Thornton had the next NC basket with a layup. After another run by the Huskies Pierson collected an offensive rebound and put it up for his fifth points of the game. Marvin McBroom had the last points of the half for the Jacks from the line. Northland shot 25 percent from the field compared to 45.9 percent from St. Cloud State.
 
Northland had a much better second half but the lead was too much to come back from. The Jacks scored on back-to-back trips to start the second quarter with a Thornton layup, followed by a Damian Cejka three. After a turnover, Northland again went down and scored on back-to-back drives with two-pointers from Thornton and Stephen Kesti. The LumberJacks found success on the two-ball shooting 10-of-17 from inside the arc and ended the half shooting 52.2 percent from the field.
 
Thornton paced Northland offensively with 13 points after going 6-of-13 from the field and 1-of-2 at the line. Pierson finished behind him with seven points. Kest, Gavin Bartlett, and Iansan Simpson chipped in four points. Pierson had a team-high three assists. Defensively, Kesti grabbed five rebounds to lead the Jacks. Northland blocked three shots coming: Pierson, Kesti, and Tyler Tuura.
 
The Jacks continue their road trip as they travel to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for a 7 p.m., game.
