Jacks fall in their last game in Iowa

DUBUQUE, Iowa. – The Northland College Men's Basketball team fell 111-57 to Loras College Sunday afternoon in Dubuque, Iowa.
 
On Northland's first possession of the game, Damian Cejka hit from deep to give the LumberJacks the lead. Jahlani Thornton extended the lead to three with a driving layup. The Duhawks scored the next 11 points to build space. Iansan Simpson ended the scoring run with his first three of the game. The Jacks offense struggled to score as Loras continued to pull away. The Duhawks were efficient in the first half shooting 66.7 percent from the field and were 9-of-12 from three as Northland was only 30.8 percent from the field and 3-of-8 from deep.
 
Northland was held off the scoreboard for the first five minutes of the second half until Marvin McBroom made a two-point jumper. After that made basket, Northland started to keep pace with LC but the lead was too big for a comeback to start.
 
Simpson was 5-for-5 to start the game including going 2-for-2 from deep to lead the Jacks with 12 points. Cejka ended the game with 11 points with nine coming from three. Thornton rounded out the top three with nine points. Hayden Harmoning assisted with a team-high four. Defensively, Thornton paced the team with four rebounds, Donovan Washington was one behind with three. Northland blocked four shots with Stephan Kesti swatting two.
 
The Jacks head to the College of St. Scholastica for a 7 p.m., game on Wednesday in Duluth, Minn.
