ASHLAND, Wis.– The Northland College Volleyball team was bested 0-3 (14-25, 13-25, 13-25) by Bethany Lutheran College in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play Saturday morning in Ashland, Wis.
Â
Northland scored the opening points of the match on kills from
Britta Josephson and
Lily Zapp. The Vikings and LumberJills continued to trade points early in the set, resulting in a tied score of nine. A 13-to-1 rally by BLC put the Vikings too far out of reach having them take set one 14-25.
Â
Early in set two the Vikings build a five-point lead. Northland cut the lead to one after three kills from Josephson and one from Zapp. BLC responded with a six-point rally of its own. The Jills were able to pull within four after another kill from Josephson but the Vikings closed out the set going on a 9-to-1 run to win 13-25.
Â
The Vikings took the first 10 points out of 11 to build a lead. Northland rallied together with four points in a row with two coming from service aces from
Hannah Fisher. The Jills tried to claw back but the nine-point advantage proved too much and they fell 13-25.
Â
Josephson led the match with 11 kills, her fourth game in double figures.
Leah Allan finished behind her with six. Zapp chipped in two kills and
Kodie Rempp added one. Rempp assisted on 17 points. The LumberJills had their most aces in a match with five, Fisher tallied three and Josephson and
Anna Campbell had the other two.
Â
On the other side of the ball, Allan had 12 digs with Josephson second on the team with eight. Fisher and
Hannah Peel ended the match with four.
Â
Northland takes a step away from conference play next week when they host Lawrence University and the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday.
