ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team split the series with Aurora University, dropping game two 4-1 Sunday afternoon in Ashland, Wis.
The Spartans started the scoring early with a powerplay goal in the third minute. Aurora kept up the attack adding two more in the next 10 minutes.
Audrey Ellerington led Northland with two shots in the first period.
The second period had four minutes of four-on-four hockey. Neither team found the back of the next with few players on the ice. The Jills recorded five shots in the second period with
Kyleigh Moffatt and
Kate Holtz pacing the team with two.
Northland had its best offensive period in the final 20 minutes.
Taylor Richmond had four shots in the third period and found the back of the net to make the game 3-1. The Jills had a few more opportunities to pull within one but were held out by Tia Glube. The Spartans capped off the scoring in the 11
th minute to win 4-1.
The Jills tallied 23 shots in the loss with Ellerington leading the way with five. Ellerington had two shots in the first and three in the third. Richmond finished behind her with four shots all coming in the final period. Holtz and
Elle Black totaled three shots in the contest.
Corrin Hanson made her fifth start this season in net. Hanson made 45 saves against the Spartans. After blocking 27 shots the previous game the Jills defense blocked 18 in the contest.

Daphne Gray, and
Kennedy Gruhlke all totaled three blocks.
Northland returns to the ice on Jan. 16 then they host Bethel University at 7 p.m.
