Vikings roar past LumberJacks in the second half

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Basketball team was bested by Bethany Lutheran College 93-57 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play Saturday evening in Ashland, Wis.
 
Jahlani Thornton got the first points on the board scoring in the paint. The LumberJacks and Vikings then traded baskets for the opening part of the game. BLC began to pull away after scoring 11 unanswered. In the final two minutes, Jordan Brennan knocked down a jumper to bring the Jacks within seven. The Vikings brought their lead back to 13 with a three-pointer buzzer-beater.
 
Starting the next half Bethany Lutheran padded its lead with a quick three and a layup. Damian Cejka stopped the run with his first three-pointer of the game. The Jacks could not add to the three-pointer and the Vikings expanded their lead to over 20. For the rest of the half BLC continued to go on runs and ended up winning 93-57.
 
The Jacks got help from 14 different student-athletes in the score column. Brennan and Langston Flowers led the team with eight points. Cejka and Thornton were behind the duo with seven points. In the assist category, Flowers and Cejka recorded three assists.
 
Northland was outrebounded 41-to-34. Thornton and Flowers paced the team with five boards. The LumberJacks had two blocks from Cejka and Jaden Jones.
 
The Jacks continue UMAC play with the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Jan. 27 at home at 4:45 p.m.
 
Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Midwest Lacrosse Conference, and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
