Jills Open UMAC Play Against Bethany

ASHLAND, Wis.--- The Northland College Softball team opened UMAC Conference play this afternoon at Ponzio Stadium against Bethany Lutheran College. After tying the game up late in game one, the Jills lost 8-7 and eventually fell in game two by a score of 18-5. 

Game 1

Bethany opened the scoring in game one, bringing four runners around to take the early 4-0 lead. Jana Bode opened the scoring for the Jills in the bottom frame of the inning with an rbi double to right field, scoring Kaylee Harnack to make it 4-1. Bethany extended their lead in the second and third inning scoring three more runs to make it 7-1 but the Jills chipped away in the 4th scoring two runs off the bat from Harnack, scoring Kayla Preisler and Hailey Minnema to make it 7-3. The rally continued in the bottom of the 6th as the Jills exploded for four runs as McKenna Freerksen had a huge two out single, scoring Preisler to make it 7-5. The Jills tied the game later in the inning as Ariana Wilson had a clutch two out double to center field to tie the game 7-7. Bethany unfortunately scored a run in the top of the 7th and the Jills would go down in order to fall in game one 8-7 over the Vikings. 

Harnack, Wilson and Preisler each collected two hits in game one. 

Game 2

In game two, Bethany opened the scoring with 4 runs in the first and added 8 more in the second to take the 12-0 lead. Alison Murphy opened the scoring for the Jills with an rbi double, scoring Preisler to make it 12-1. Bethany added two more runs in the top of the 4th but the Jills added two more off of a no doubt home run off the bat from Elizabeth Peters to make it 14-3. The Jills added two more runs in the bottom of the 5th but it wouldn't be enough as the Vikings took game two 18-5 over the Jills. 

Peters, Preisler and Murphy each collected hits in game two for the Jills. 

The Jills are back in action next Tuesday (April 11th) as they host Northwestern MN. Game 1 of the double header at Ponzio Stadium is set to start at 3:30pm.
