ASHLAND, Wis.--- The Northland College Softball team hosted Northwestern MN this afternoon in a UMAC double-header at Ponzio Stadium. The Jills dropped both games by scores of 6-1 and 8-0.
Game 1
After allowing a run in the top of the first of game one, the Jills evened the score in the bottom frame of the inning as
Ariana Wilson grounded out to first but
Janna Bode was able to come around from third to score and make it 1-1. In the top of the third, Northwestern was able to extend their lead to 3-1 and made a bigger deficit in the top of the third, scoring three runs to make the score 6-1 for the Eagles. The LumberJills were unable to get the bats alive in the later parts of the innings and fell in game one 6-1.
McKenna Freerksen,
Hailey Minnema and
Alison Murphy each collected hits in game one for the Jills.
Wilson pitched the complete game for the Jills going 7.0 innings, giving up four earned runs on ten hits.
Game 2
In game two, Northwestern was able to jump out to the early 4-0 lead after two innings of play.
Kaylee Harnack and
Janna Bode each were able to collect hits for the Jills through the middle innings but the Jills were unsuccessful scoring any runs. Northwestern added runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take game two 8-0 over the Jills.
Bode, Harnack, Freerksen, Minnema and
Lenisa Tomasini each collected hits for the Jills in game two.
The Jills will travel to St. Bonifacious, MN this weekend for a pair of neutral site UMAC double-headers against Minnesota Morris, Northwestern MN, Crown College and North Central MN.
