NEW ULM, Minn--- The Northland College Softball team traveled to New Ulm, MN today for a UMAC Conference double-header against Martin Luther College. The Jills dominated, winning 13-4 in game one and 7-5 in game two.
Game 1
The Jills ran out to an early 5-0 lead after two innings as
Elizabeth Peters,
Janna Bode,
Kaylee Harnack and
Ariana Wilson each collected rbi hits. The Jills continued to cruise in the 4th inning as
Kayla Preisler and
Hailey Minnema collected rbi hits to give the Jills a 7-0 lead. Martin Luther scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th but the Jills responded with three of their own as
Alison Murphy hammered a 3 rbi double to center field making the score 10-4. The Jills continued to cruise in the 6th as
Lenisa Tomasini,
McKenna Freerksen and Wilson had rbi hits as the Jills took game one, 13-4 over Martin Luther in game one.
Ariana Wilson led all LumberJills at the plate in game one with 4 hits.
Wilson also pitched 6.0 innings, giving up 4 earned runs off of 12 hits and struck out 3 batters.
Game 2
The Jills continued their hot bats in game two, jumping out to the early 5-0 lead after two innings as Wilson and Peters had RBI hits in the first and second inning. Martin Luther was able to add runs in the 2nd and 3rd but once again the Jills responded with two runs in the 5th inning as Minnema doubled and later scored to make it 7-2. Martin Luther was able to make it close late with runs in the 5th and bottom of the 7th but it wouldn't be enough as the Jills won game two 7-5.
Harnack, Wilson, Peters and Preisler led the Jills at the plate in game two with two hits.
The Jills continue UMAC play on Monday (April 24th) as they travel to Crown College for a double-header. Game one is set to start at 1pm.
