ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team fell in a nonconference game 5-1 to Bethel University Tuesday night in St. Paul, Minn.
Starting the game, it was all Bethel winning faceoffs and sending shots
Karlee Lehner's way. Lehner had a busy first nine minutes making 11 saves. The Royals got on the board in the 11
th minute with a goal from Alison Hoerer. After the goal, the Jills offense picked up with
Maddy Bloedel and
Audrey Ellerington recording a shot.
Taylor Richmond leveled the game near the 15-minute mark for her second of the season. In the final 17 seconds, BU scored again to enter the first intermission up one.
Just like the first period the Royals started fast but were able convert their shots scoring two in the first four minutes. The Jills had their best offensive period with nine shots but not able to get the puck in the back of the net.
In the final period, Bethel added to their total with a final goal to win 5-1.
Northland finished the game with 20 shots to Bethel's 32. Leading in shots was the goal scorer Richmond with five. Ellerington and
Kate Holtz were behind her with four. Holtz had her first assist of the 2023-24 season bringing her point total up to five.
The Jills had their fourth game with nine blocks.
Jamie Steinmetz and
Elle Black stopped two shots to lead the team. In net, Lehner made 33 saves with 16 coming in the first period.
The LumberJills will take some time off for the holiday break and will return to the ice on Jan., 6 as they host Aurora University for a two-game series.
