Flowers drops 14 in Jacks’ opening game at Radisson Holiday Classic

Northland dropped game to UW-River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Basketball team returned from the holiday break with the Radisson Holiday Classic where it fell 72-38 to the hosts the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Friday night in River Falls, Wis. Senior Langston Flowers led the scoring for the LumberJacks with 14 points.
 
Flowers started the scoring with a layup. The Falcons followed that up nine unanswered. Flowers responded with Northland's first three of the game putting him at five points, four minutes in. The Jacks were hot from behind the arc, shooting 50 percent with four student-athletes getting involved: Flowers, Damian Cejka, Drew Lindberg, and Jordan Brennan. Northland trailed as much as 13 in the first half but entered halftime down eight after a Brennan three-pointer.
 
The Falcon came out strong in the second half going on a 19-to-4 run to start the half. Flowers started the half with a pair of made free throws but could not match the scoring pace of UW-River Falls trailing 51-28 seven minutes in. The Falcons continued to pad their lead ending the game up 72-38.
 
Flowers led the scoring with his six double-figures game with 14. He was the only LumberJack to reach double digits. Lindberg finished with eight points, six in the first half. Coming off the bench, Cejka rounded out the top three with seven points. Despite not landing on the scorer's sheet Marvin McBroom led the team in assists three.
 
UW-River Falls outrebounded Northland 57-to-34. The Jacks were led by Lindberg and Ben Smith both totaling four. All of Smith's rebounds came on the offensive glass. The Jacks recorded 13 steals, with Flowers, Brennan, and Cejka. Stephen Kesti and Flowers added to their season block total each recording one in the contest.
 
The Jacks wrap up the Radisson Holiday Classic tomorrow (Saturday) as they play No. 7 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 5 p.m.
