ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team was held scoreless for the first time this season, dropping its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game 2-0 to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Saturday afternoon in Ashland, Wis.
With the loss the LumberJills fall to 3-8-1 on the season and 0-3-1 in the conference. The Pointers improved to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in the WIAC.
In the first period, both teams were unable to get on the board. Freshman
Karlee Lehner made 16 saves in the first 20 minutes to keep the game at 0-0.
Audrey Ellerington had a few breakaways in the opening period but could not beat Emily Griege in the net.
In the second period, shots were nearly even with the Jills edging out the Pointers 15-to-14. Ellerington had another big period totaling three shots to lead NC. UWSP broke the deadlock with five minutes left in the period with a goal from Sara Aadalen.
In the final period, the Jills' offense was held to only four shots, but they held the Points to only five. On the final shot of the game UW-Stevens Point scored its second goal of the game.
The Jills recorded their third most shots in a game this season at 30. Northland was led by Ellerington with six shots in the contest. Behind her was
Lauren Klein and
Taylor Richmond with five. NC had success in faceoffs winning 38-of-60 with
Hannah Baumann winning 19 of her 26 attempts.
The defense had their seventh game with double-digit blocks at 14.
Kiley Sims blocked the most shots for Northland with three and
Elle Black and
Jamie Steinmetz finished behind her at two. In net, Lehner made 33 saves for a save percentage of 94.3.
The Jills take part in their last game of 2023 on Tuesday as they travel to Bethel University for a 7 p.m., game.
