Jills drop home opener to St. Olaf

Northland defeated 5-1 by Oles

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team fell at the Bay Area Civic Center to St. Olaf College 5-1 Friday night in Ashland, Wis. Sophomore Kate Holtz scored her second goal of the season to get the LumberJills on the board.
 
The Jills found themselves down early in the first period after giving up two goals in the span of a minute and a half. The second period was scoreless but both teams had their chances. Maddy Bloedel and Elle Black led NC with two shots in the period. In the third period, Holtz cut the lead to one with her second goal this season. Three minutes later the Oles regained their lead and continued to add to it winning 5-1.
 
Bloedel led the team on the offensive with five shots, recording at least one in each period. The senior also blocked three shots. Joey Schemenauer and Black were behind Bloedel with three shots. Northland and St. Olaf split with faceoffs 16-16 with Black winning eight of her 11. Zoe Laming made her collegiate debut in goal recording 16 saves.
 
The Jills will be back at the B.A.C.C., tomorrow (Saturday) to finish the series with St. Olaf at 2 p.m.
