APPLETON, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team was bested by Lawrence University 3-1 in the first game of the two-game series Saturday night in Appleton, Wis.

The LumberJills were on the powerplay a minute into the game. Northland was only able to record one shot on net with the extra skater, coming from
Taylor Richmond. The rest of the period was pretty equal with both teams tallying six shots and entered the first intermission tied at zero.
The Vikings drew first blood five minutes into the second period and less than three minutes later added a second. LU had the momentum had 19 shots and held the Jills to only three.
Northland turned it on in the final period where they more than doubled its shot total with 10. The first shot for the Vikings ended up in the back of the net to extend their lead to three. The Jills defense stepped up after that only giving up two more shots. After the goal, Holtz scored on the powerplay to avoid the shutout. Shortly after, the Jills were on the powerplay again and peppered the goal but could not sneak one past Sydney Seeley, resulting in a 3-1 victory for LU.
The Vikings outshot the Jills 28-to-19. Richmond and
Jamie Steinmetz recorded the most shots for Northland with four.
Maddy Bloedel was behind the pair with three. The LumberJills continued with another high block game with 11.
Nevaeh Trihey, Richmond and Steinmetz led the team with two.
The LumberJill end the series with the Vikings tomorrow (Sunday) at 3 p.m.
