Duhawks spoil Northland’s home opener

LumberJacks fall to Loras on Saturday

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Basketball team dropped its home opener 101-73 to Loras College Saturday afternoon in Ashland, Wis. Senior Jordan Brennan had a season-high 23 points in the contest.
 
The Duhawks started fast with five quick points. Brennan scored the Jacks' first bucket with a jumper and two drives later he knocked down a three to make the score 8-7. Loras responded and extended its lead to six. Kayden Palmi broke up the run with a pair of made free throws. After a free throw from Tyler Tuura Northland was within four, the closest it got for the rest of the half. With four minutes left, the Duhawks had their largest lead of the half at 20. Before the horn, the Jacks start to chip away at the lead with Marvin McBroom scoring the Jacks' last points of the half to help them pull within 14.
 
In the second half, Jahlani Thornton started a five-point run with a layup followed by a three-pointer from Brennan. After three made free throws by Brennan Northland cut the lead to 59-48. The Duhawks finished the rest of the game strong and pulled away from Northland to win 101-73.
 
Brennan had a season-high 23 points to lead Northland, shooting 7-for-15 from the field, 5-for-9 from three and 4-for-5 at the free throw line. As a team, the Jacks finished shooting 25-for-62 (40.3%) from the floor, 10-for-28 (35.7%) from behind the arc and 13-for-15 (86.7%) from the free throw line. Langston Flowers, Tuura and McBroom all crack double figures with Flowers and Tuura at 12 and McBroom at 10.
 
The Duhawks outrebounded the Jacks 50-to-30. Thornton paced the team with seven rebounds, and one of the team's five offensive rebounds. Northland had three blocks in the game with Thornton, Drew Lindberg and Damian Cejka swatting a shot. Brennan recorded two steals for the most from either team.
 
On Friday the Jacks travel to Menomonie, Wis., to take on the University of Wisconsin-Stout at 7 p.m.
