WINONA, Minn. – The Northland College Women's Basketball team suffered a 79-30 loss to St. Mary's University Tuesday night in Winona, Minn. In her second game this season
Tianna McKinley led the LumberJills with double-digit points.
On Northland's first shot attempt, McKinley knocked down a step-back jumper for the Jills' first points of the game. McKinley scored all of NC's points in the first quarter, along with the jumper the junior knocked down a pair of threes.
Jojo Lowmaster scored her first points of the season with a layup assisted by McKinley.
Kodie Rempp scored the last four points of the quarter with a free throw and a three-ball.
In the second half, McKinley scored on her first shot attempt with a jump for two points. Shortly after
Katelyn Altaha got on the board with a layup right after a steal. In the final 30 seconds, Lowmaster scored another layup. The first of Northland's points in the final quarter came from a three-pointer from Altaha. After being held quiet for three quarters
Tara Sandoval was good from deep getting assisted by McKinley. McKinley wrapped up the scoring with a pair of made free throws and a jumper to end to game with 14 points.
As a team, the LumberJills shot 11-for-46 (23.9%) from the field, 5-for-21 (23.8%) from behind the arc and 3-for-6 from the free throw line. McKinley led the scoring with 14 points, with Altaha behind her with five. Altaha also had five rebounds a team-high. All seven student-athletes who saw the court recorded at least two rebounds with McKinley, Lowmaster, Rempp, and
Harley Heckendorf all with three. The Jills tallied eight steals, three coming from Rempp.
This weekend the LumberJills will be at the Nicolet National Bank Tip-Off Tournament where they start the tournament with St. Norbert College on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 1 p.m., Saturday.
