ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Basketball team fell in its season opener 81-31 to Lakeland University Saturday afternoon in Ashland, Wis. Junior
Tianna McKinley in her first game with the LumberJills, shot 50 percent from the field and finished with 14 points.

Freshman
Tara Sandoval scored the first points for the 2023-24 season. The freshman knocked down a pair of free throws and then in the following drive converted on a layup. McKinley scored her first points in the first quarter with a jumper. Junior
Kodie Rempp scored the first three of the season coming in the second quarter.

McKinley led the way for NC with 14 points, with seven coming in the fourth quarter. The junior shot 4-for-8 from the field, 1-for-3 from behind the arc and 5-for-6 from the free throw line. As a team, Northland converted on 9-of-10 shots from the charity stripe. Junior
Katelyn Altaha was behind McKinley with eight points. Defensively, McKinley and senior
Madi Owens led the team with five rebounds. The LumberJills recorded four blocked shots, three from McKinley and one from
Madison Mendoza.

The Jills will be on the road for their next game, as they travel to Saint Mary's University for a 7 p.m., game on Tuesday.
