RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team was bested by No. 4 University of Wisconsin-River Falls 14-1 Saturday afternoon in River Falls, Wis. Freshman
Audrey Ellerington scored in the final period to help the Jills avoid the shutout.
The Falcons got on the board early with their first shot of the game 40 seconds in.
Corrin Hanson then made 19 saves to keep the score at one. Entering the second period UWRF scored 51 seconds to double their lead. The Falcon padded their lead with nine more goals in the period. Just the two periods before UW-River Falls scored early. Near the midway point of the final period, the LumberJills got on the board with a goal from Ellerington to continue Northland's streak of games with a goal to 11 dating back to the 2022-23 season. To end the game the Falcons added a final goal to win 14-1.
Northland recorded six shots in the game, and Ellerington led NC with two, with a shot coming in the second and third periods. Also recording shots were
Taylor Richmond,
Kiley Sims,
Kyleigh Moffatt and
Kate Holtz. The defense did some work, blocking 21 shots. Sims led the team with five.
Daphne Gray was behind her with four. Hanson and
Zoe Laming split time in goal. Hanson in 38 minutes recorded 42 saves and Laming in 22 minutes made 22 saves.
The LumberJills return home on Friday as they take on the University of Wisconsin-Superior at 3 p.m.
