Hawkins earns first career win as head coach

Jills split the series with St. Kate’s with a 2-1 win

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team defeated St. Catherine University 2-1 Saturday afternoon in St. Paul, Minn., splitting the series. Head Coach Natasha Hawkins earned her first career win on the road.
 
Maddy Bloedel started the scoring early in the game with a goal in the first four minutes. The senior is coming off a season with five goals and three assists. The Wildcats leveled the game in the second period with a goal from Julia Wilson. As the game looked like it was heading to overtime freshman Audrey Ellerington got the puck on the back-post scoring with 15 seconds left in the half.
 
Northland was outshot 18-38 but made the most of its opportunities to win their first game of the season. Ellerington and Bloedel along with scoring led the team in shots, both with three. Freshman Hannah Baumann won 10 faceoffs. In goal, Karlee Lehner made 37 saves and earned her first collegiate win.
 
The Jills make their home debut next week as they host St. Olaf College on Friday at 7 p.m., and Saturday at 2 p.m.
