ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team dropped its season opener to St. Catherine University 4-1 in St. Paul, Minn. Sophomore
Kate Holtz scored the first goal for Northland of the season in the third period.
After a scoreless first period, the Wildcats jumped ahead with three goals in the second period. The Jills got on the board a little after seven minutes into the final period. Holtz scored getting assisted by
Kiera Richards and
Hannah Baumann. St. Kate's added one more in the third to win 4-1.
Audrey Ellerington,
Jamie Steinmetz, and
Kennedy Gruhlke led Northland with three shots in the game.
Karlee Lehner made her collegiate debut in goal and recorded 34 saves.
The Jills and Wildcats finish the series tomorrow (Saturday) at 2 p.m.
