DE PERE, Wis. -Â The Northland College Volleyball team fell in three sets (18-25, 20-25, 24-26) to St. Norbert College in a non-conference match, Friday evening in De Pere, Wis. For the third match in a row,
Bailey Wynn led the LumberJills in kills tallying 12 in the three sets.
Set one started off with both teams trading points with the largest lead being two. After the teams traded off service errors the match was tied at 12. The Jills scored the next point to take their final lead of the first set. The Green Knights put together the largest run of the half with four unanswered four to up 16-13. For the rest of the set Northland was unable to chain together points, falling 25-18.Â
SNC matched its largest run of the first set early in set two. The Green Knights were up 6-3 but the Jills kept them close and tied the match up at 10-10 with points coming for
Ellie Kracht and Wynn. The tie did not last long with St. Norbert scoring 10 of the next 11 points. NC started to chip away at the nine-point deficit. Kills from
Britta Josephson,
Shelby Justman and Kracht and a service ace from
Annika Herlevi cut the lead to 22-20. The Green Knights scored the next three points, winning 25-20.
The third set was one of the closest the LumberJills have been apart of all season. At 9-10 in favor of SNC, the Jills and the Green Knights would score three points in a row then the other team followed until both teams went on two three-point runs. Northland knotted the match up at 16-16 from a set error on the other side then two more three-points runs had the match tied up at 19 all. After a kill from Kratch and an attack error from SNC, the Jills were up 21-20 going into the final stretch. Wynn scored the tying point at 22 all, 23 all and 24 all but St. Norbert won 26=24.
Wynn had another strong performance offensively and defensively leading the team in kills and digs. Wynn had a match-high 12 kills, hitting .243. Behind her on the attack were Justman and Josephson each with six kills.
Kodie Rempp for the first time this season led the Jills with 17 assists, with
Megan Van Gheem behind her at 13. Northland scored off the serve four times in the match, two from Herlevi. Tying with Wynn for digs was
Alexa Zadra with 21. The Jills recorded three blocks, all assisted with Kracht being a part of all three.
The Jills take part in the Ripon College Triangular tomorrow (Saturday) as they take on Ripon College and Maranatha Baptist University. Northland starts the day with the hosts Ripon College at 10 a.m., and follows up with the Saints at noon.
