MORRIS, Minn.--- The Northland College Softball team traveled to Morris, MN for a UMAC conference double-header against Minnesota Morris University. The Jills would fall in both games by one run, dropping game one, 10-9 and falling in game two, 5-4.
Game 1 Box Score
In game one,
Sofia Garcia got the start on the mound for the Jills. The Jills were able to jump out to the impressive 8-0 lead after he first three innings as
Saylor Donnelly, Garcia,
Kaylee Harnack,
Kayla Preisler, Lenissa Tomasini and Donnelly again would collect rbi hits to give the Jills the commanding lead. Morris would however chip away at the lead with runs in the bottom of the third, fourth, fifth inning to make it a 8-6 game. The Jills added an insurance run in the top of the 6th as McKenna Freeksen had a sac fly to the outfield, scoring Donnelly to make it 9-6 for the Jills. Morris would respond with three runs in the top of the sixth and ended up scoring the winning run in the bottom of the 7th to take game one, 10-9 over the Jills.
Jenna Reyes and
Saylor Donnelly led all LumberJills in game one with three hits a each.
Game 2 Box Score
In game two,
Ariana Wilson would get the start on the hill for the LumberJills. After two runs in the bottom of the second for Morris, the Jills exploded for four runs in the top of the third inning as
Kaylee Harnack,
Jenna Reyes and
Saylor Donnelly collected rbi hits to give the Jills the 4-2 lead. Morris would however chip away at the LumberJills lead with runs in the third, fourth and sixth inning to take game two, 5-4 over the Jills.
Harnack led all LumberJills at the dish in game two going 3-4 with 1 rbi and 1 run scored.
The Jills continue conference play this Wednesday (4-13) as they host Crown College in a UMAC double-header. Game one is set to start at 3:30pm.
Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Midwest Lacrosse Conference and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
