ASHLAND, Wis.--- The Northland College Softball team continued UMAC conference play this afternoon at LumberJill Field as they hosted Martin Luther College. The Jills continued their perfect start at home, sweeping the Knights by scores of 9-6 & 10-3.
Game 1
In game one,
Ariana Wilson got the nod on the hill for the Jills. After two quick runs from the Knights in the top of the first, the Jills responded with two of their own as
Saylor Donnelly continued her smooth hitting at the plate with a 2 rbi double to tie the game 2-2. After another run from MLC in the top of the second, the Jills exploded for four runs in the bottom frame as Wilson,
Allison Kile and
Lenisa Tomasini each collected rbi hits to give the Jills the 6-3 lead. After MLC tied the game 6-6 in the top of the fourth,
Sofia Garcia had a clutch 2 rbi single to retake the lead for the Jills. Kile added an insurance run in the 6th with an rbi hit, scoring Garcia and the Jills would never look back for the 9-6 win.
Kile, who collected her first win on the mound as a LumberJill, pitched 7.0 innings, giving up 5 earned runs on 13 hits and struck out two batters.
Saylor Donnelly and
Kayla Preisler led all LumberJills with 3 hits in game one.
Game 2
In game two,
Kayla Preisler would get the start on the mound for the Jills. After an rbi single from
Sofia Garcia in the bottom of the first,
Kayla Preisler added two more rbi's to her strong day at the plate in the second inning, giving the Jills the 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the lead, the Jills continued their strong day at the plate as Garcia hammered a solo homerun to left field to make it 4-1 for the Jills. MLC would come within one run in the top of the 5th inning before a 6 run explosion in sixth inning for the Jills as Elisabeth Peters, Wilson, Kile and Preisler each had rbi hits as the Jills would take game 2 by a score of 10-3.
Jenna Reyes had a tremendous day at the plate in game two going 4-5 (4 singles).
Preisler finished her day on the mound going 7.0 innings, giving up 3 earned runs off of 10 hits while striking out two batters.
The Jills are back in action tomorrow as they host UW-Superior on Senior Day at LumberJill Field in a UMAC double-header. Game time is set to start at 3:30pm.
