The Northland College Women's Soccer team began their final road trip of the season on Friday afternoon with a UMAC contest at Northwestern. The two teams met for the second time on the season, after previously playing nearly two weeks ago. Although the LumberJills allowed one fewer goal in Fiday's match, they unfortunately were unable to score and dropped the game by a final of 1-0.
The LumberJills played a tough defensive first half. The Eagles outshot the Jills 15-2 in the half, with eight of those shots being on target.
Elysabeth Lough started in net for the Jills and recorded a perfect, eight save half to keep the game scoreless. She finished the contest with 14 saves.Â
The second half began very similar to the first, with Northwestern again outshooting the LumberJills 13-1. They were able to break the tie in the game's 64th minute to take the 1-0 lead. With just under 10 minutes to play in the game, Northland was able to get their best chance at knotting the game. A foul near the forty yard line allowed the Jills to take a free kick and set up a great opportunity.
Justus Manuelito lobbed a high pass into the box, just in front of the Eagle's keeper. The ball bounced off the keeper to
Clara Schmiesing. Schmiesing shot the rebound low just in reach for the keeper to make a save.
Northland (2-9-4, 1-5-4 UMAC) will be back in action Saturday afternoon at North Central for another UMAC contest. Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM.
Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Midwest Lacrosse Conference and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
