ASHLAND, Wis.--- The Northland College Women's Soccer team hosted Martin Luther College this evening at Ponzio Stadium in a Upper Midwest Athletic Conference matchup. With the game deadlocked 1-1 with 10 minutes left to play in the second half, Laura Hink ripped a shot from outside the box that hit off of two Martin Luther defenders and found the back of the net for the lead and eventual win 2-1 over the Knights.

Box Score

After a flurry of chances early on from Martin Luther, Northland started to find their groove with quality scoring chances from Kreta Keefer and Isabelle McCurry. Keefer was finally able to capitalize with just under three minutes to play in the half, blasting a free kick shot from just outside the box into the top right corner of the net to make it 1-0 for the Jills and would take that lead into the half.

Martin Luther would catch a break just 15 minutes into the second half, scoring on a penalty kick goal to tie the game 1-1. Both team's would have quality chances to take the lead late in the game but it was a shot from Northland's Laura Hink to break through the tie, ripping a shot from outside the box that bounced off of two MLC defenders and found the back of the net to give the Jills the 2-1 lead with ten minutes remaining. Northland's Elysabeth Lough stood strong in net, fending off the final attack from MLC to hang on for the 2-1 win and first UMAC win of the 2021 season.

The Jills out shot MLC today 10-9.

Lough made 3 saves in goal today for the LumberJills.

The Jills will have a quick turnaround as they host Bethany Lutheran College tomorrow (9-25) at Ponzio Stadium. Game time it set to start at 4:30pm.
