SUPERIOR, Wis.--- The Northland College Baseball team traveled to Superior, WI today for a UMAC doubleheader vs. UW-Superior. After dropping game one, 14-4, the Jacks responded to win game two and force the split winning 9-5.
Game 1
In game one,
Adrian Bethel would get the start on the mound for the Jacks. UW-Superior would jump out to the early lead, scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the first to go up 6-0. The Jacks would try to chip away at the UWS lead in the 4th inning as
Noah Cross and
Adrian Bethel hit solo home runs to make it 7-2. In the 5th, Cross one again crushed a 2 rbi homer to center field to put the Jacks within three runs, trailing 7-4. UWS would however respond, scoring four runs in the 6th and 3 more in the 8th to take game one, 14-4.
Rian Arreazola and
Noah Cross led all LumberJacks at the plate in game one, each going 3X4.
Game 2
Brian McKenna would get the start on the mound for the Jacks in game two. Like game one, UWS would jump out to the early lead, scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the first to go up 2-0. The Jacks exploded for 5 runs in the top of the third inning as
Jake Schramm would get the Jacks on the board ripping a rbi double, scoring
Joel Eason.
Noah Cross continued his hot hitting on the day, smacking an 2 rbi double up the middle, scoring
Rian Arreazola and Schram. Later in the inning, the home runs continued as
Adrian Bethel ripped his second homer of the day, this one being a 2rbi blast to make it 5-2 for the Jacks. UWS would add three runs in the bottom of the 4th inning but it was the LumberJacks who responded with runs of their own as
Zach Ross hammered a solo home run in the 8th inning to put the Jacks up 7-5. The Jacks added insurance runs in the 9th as
Keaton Arreazola collected an rbi hit and Ross walked with the bases loaded as the Jacks increased their lead and would go on to take game two by a final score of 9-5.
Jake Schramm and
Rian Arreazola led all LumberJacks at the plate in game two collecting two hits a piece.
Joel Eason, who came in to pitch in relief, pitched brilliantly, going 4.0 innings, only giving up 1 hit, allowed 0 runs while striking out 1 batter.
The Jacks will continue UMAC play at home this Saturday (May 8th) as they host Bethany Lutheran College in a doubleheader. Game one at LumberJack Field is set to start at 1:30pm.
